In the fall of 2000 I had a vision for a garden area on the east side of my house off the screen porch.  We spend alot of time enjoying the porch in nice weather, but the garden lacked privacy and I lacked direction when trying to plan the plantings and features.  Recently I had lost my beloved miniature schnauzer, Zak, and wanted to have a garden area in mis memory.

After much consideration, I decided that a bench and a water feature would be the main elements and I started designing with that in mind.  Before winter, I removed all of the turf grass and planted additional shrubs for privacy.

In early spring I ordered a custom garden stepping stone from Fantasy Glass Enterprises in the shape of a schnauzer head.  This I would place at the base of the fountain.

Below are pictures of the area taken in early April 2001.  With the exception of the shrub plantings(which appear nonexistent in the pictures-lol), it's basically a clean slate.

This is our screen porch which looks out onto the new garden area.  When all the work is done, we will be able to sit back and enjoy!

Opposite the porch, in front of the privacy border is where I placed the bench.  The fountain will be installed directly across from the bench right off the porch.  My goal is to create a garden space that can be enjoyed from inside or out.
